Career Development

The HCA career development group was established in 2015 to support member organisations to attract and retain talent.

Objectives

The HCA career development group was established in 2015 to support member organisations to attract and retain talent by enabling and empowering employees to foster best practice career development by applying the same degree of attention to the strategic planning of their own career as they would for the good of their clients or organisation.

The objectives for the workstream are:

  • Empower employees to set career goals and adopt the appropriate strategy to achieve them
  • Support member organisations employees to make the transition to people management positions and give them the confidence to fully support and encourage direct reports to reach their career goals within their organisations
  • Provide mentoring opportunities for the next generation of healthcare communications leaders

Activities

A programme of relevant, practical events for HCA members is being developed with a particular focus on developing a network of mentors for members, from Account Manager to MD. We are also kicking off a new bespoke workshop based on neuroscientific principles to set meaningful personal career goals.

Delegate Feedback From Recent Events

I found it really interesting speaking with other young professionals who were in exactly the same boat as me.
Having 1:1 chats with the mentors was an eye opener and gave me the confidence to begin looking for another role. The informal setting was great and I felt at ease.
The mentors had completely different experiences to each other and so each conversation was really valuable.
I really enjoyed this event. The cross section of mentors made the evening very worthwhile. It was also valuable to chat to other attendees about their roles and their companies. This enabled a good insight into the industry.
