HCA Committees and Working Groups

The HCA Board is the governing body for the Healthcare Communications Association (HCA). The board’s role is to provide effective strategic leadership, direction, challenge, support and guidance. Board members work in partnership with fellow board members and the Chief Executive to ensure that strategic, business and operational plans support the organisation’s vision, mission and strategic direction and priorities. Board members provide effective fiscal oversight and ensure sound risk management.
Attracting, retaining and developing the best people to work for the HCA in a paid or unpaid capacity is a high priority. The Nominations Committee takes delegated responsibility on behalf of the Board for identifying and proposing individuals who may act as new members of the board, its standing committees and ad hoc working groups and forums.
Additional committees, chaired by board members, take delegated responsibility for developing and driving specific aspects the HCA’s strategic plan. 
These committees are responsible for:
  • Member Engagement. Objective: To grow membership, and to support the rising stars & future leaders initiatives
  • Professional Development. Objective: To drive forward professional development within the sector through the following: to continue to raise awareness of CPD standards & certification to continue to establish the HCA as CPD accreditor, to run CPD courses, to implement the hybrid annual conference and to launch mentoring programme (pilot).
  • Standards and Best Practice. Objective: To develop best practice standards/guides & support best practice in innovation and creativity, measurement and evaluation, roll out an agency accreditation standard with HCA as the accreditor and embed diversity and inclusion in all activity.
  • Foresight. Objective: To predict future trends in healthcare communications and help us as a profession prepare for tomorrow.
