This year we are running two hybrid conference afternoons, the first on Thursday 13th June (Manchester) and the second on Thursday 27th June (London).

Individuals from organisations who have not purchased the 2024 conference package can sign-up to join virtually for a fee of £50 per person.

We will be joined by Dr. Matthew Bonam, Vice President, Digital Health at Evinova, Prof. Ben Bridgewater, Chief Executive, Health Innovation Manchester, Prof. Iain Buchan, Associate Pro Vice Chancellor for Innovation and Director of the Civic Health Innovation Labs, University of Liverpool, and Claire Portsmouth, Director of Communications and Engagement, Health Innovation Network. This will be followed by a rich panel discussion and we will then discuss what this all means for us as communicators today and beyond.
The theme for the Manchester conference is ‘Health Technology and Communications’ and will address the challenges currently being faced by industry and how technological innovation can help overcome them, how digital transformation can shape health practices to improve health and patient outcomes as well as the appropriate use of healthcare/patient data.

Speaker Biographies:
Dr. Matthew Bonam
Matt Bonam is the Head of Digital Health in Evinova, an AstraZeneca Group Health Tech company. He represents digital health on the AstraZeneca Biopharma R&D LT.
He has been in AstraZeneca for 23 years, working in a range of roles in the CMC area and in project leadership before leading the formation of the Intel Pharma group in 2014. Initially the group focussed on the use of Digital Health tools to support patients with medication adherence before joining R&D Digital Health in 2018.
He has overall accountability for the development of AstraZeneca’s digital patient solution platforms, the partnership with the Biopharma therapy areas in the use of digital solutions to augment clinical development and work with healthcare organisations to transform clinical pathways and improve outcomes for patients.
Prof. Ben Bridgewater
Ben Bridgewater is Chief Executive of Health Innovation Manchester. He is a leading expert on health informatics, national clinical audit, clinical governance, healthcare transparency, patient experience measurement, and digital transformation in healthcare. He has published numerous high profile academic outputs and delivered innovative IT tools for sharing clinical outcomes to professionals and the public. Prior to joining Health Innovation Manchester, Ben worked for global technology company DXC Technology as the Director of the Healthcare and Lifesciences Global Build Advisory Team. Until January 2016, he was a cardiac surgeon at the University Hospital of South Manchester for nearly 18 years.
Prof. Iain E. Buchan
Iain Buchan is W.H. Duncan Professor of Public Health Systems, Associate Pro Vice Chancellor for Innovation, University of Liverpool. He is a Public health physician and data scientist with over 25 years HealthTech experience. He has raised over £220m in research activity and published over 340 works (h-index 82), including software, and patents. He recently led the world’s first evaluation of mass rapid antigen testing, risk-mitigated reopening of mass events for UK COVID-19 responses and founded the UK’s first Civic Data Cooperative. He previously founded Manchester’s health informatics research centre. He qualified in pharmacology, medicine, public health, statistics, and informatics and is Fellow of American College of Medical Informatics, NIHR Senior Investigator, recipient of Faculty of Public Health Alwyn-Smith medal and Royal Statistical Society Florence Nightingale Award.

Claire Portsmouth
Claire Portsmouth, Director of Communications and Engagement, Health Innovation Network
Claire is the strategic communications and engagement lead on our senior leadership team. She oversees our Health Innovation Network Central Communications Team, which is responsible for our website, social media, newsletters, and events. She also manages stakeholder engagement, media relations, and public affairs.
Claire has over 15 years’ experience in content production and is a specialist video and events producer. She has spent the past five years in Health Innovation Networks, leading teams to deliver creative and strategic communications that support the spread and adoption of innovation in the NHS.
Alongside this role, Claire is also Senior Communications Lead at Imperial College Health Partners.
