The Better Research for Better Outcomes White Paper Presentation, by the Ethical Medicines Industry Group (EMIG).
We are delighted to be running a shared experience session with Leslie Galloway, EMIG Chairman and Eric Low, who sits on the EMIG Steering Group. They will be presenting key insights from their Better Research for Better Outcomes White Paper, which addresses challenges in the evaluation and reimbursement of new medicines in the UK. The White Paper is due to be published in September and is intended to drive improvements in the quality and relevance of research results so they can deliver better health outcomes.
Leslie and Eric will be sharing some of The White Paper recommendations on how all those involved in clinical research can generate ‘better’ evidence to support decision-making about which new treatments are approved for use in the NHS. Evidence needs to be clinically relevant and plausible, and to answer questions concerning the safety, clinical impact, cost-effectiveness, and patient relevant outcomes of new medicines.
One of the greatest current concerns in healthcare is patient access to medicines and the barriers delaying or preventing it. To better understand the problems, EMIG convened a panel of experts from the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), NHS England & Improvement (NHSE&I), medical research funders, researchers, patient charities and industry. The panel identified potential solutions and focused on incentives to effect change – and make five recommendations, documented in the White Paper.
Please do join us to hear first-hand, how these valuable learnings have the potential to transform the future of healthcare and join in our Q&A at the end of the presentation.
Please note, The White Paper has been written and published by EMIG, with assistance from Claire Bowie, Paul Tunnah and Leela Barham.
