Language is powerful. It can make people feel valued and empowered, or excluded and stereotyped. And the meanings and connotations of words can change quickly. Your writing can have a big impact on your audiences by using appropriate, inclusive language.

About the Presenter

Stacy Robison, MPH, MCHES, President and Co-founder of CommunicateHealth, Inc, is a recognized expert in health literacy and clear communication — and recipient of the 2018 AMWA McGovern Award. She oversees CommunicateHealth’s content and design teams, using a human-centered design approach that prioritizes clear, inclusive language as a way to promote health behaviour change among diverse audiences.

Under Stacy’s leadership, CommunicateHealth has become a leader in the field — since 2013, the weekly We © Health Literacy email series has shared actionable tips and best practices with health communicators on topics ranging from gendered design to person-first language to racism and COVID-19.
