The London HCA Conference – Determinants of Health and Considerations for Communications 

FREE sign-up for HCA members who have purchased the 2024 Conference package.

This year we are running two hybrid conference afternoons, the first on Thursday 13th June (Manchester) and the second on Thursday 27th June (London).

Sign up here to join our hybrid conference session on Thursday 27th June, as a virtual participant. HCA member organisations who have purchased the 2024 conference package have an unlimited number of free virtual places as well as an allotted number of in-person places.

Individuals from organisations who have not purchased the 2024 conference package can sign-up to join virtually for a fee of £50 per person.

We will be joined at the London conference by Dr Tammy Boyce, Senior Consultant at the Institute of Health Equity, Michael Brady, National Advisor for LGBT Health and Deputy Director, Patient Equalities NHS England; Consultant in Sexual Health and HIV, Kings College Hospital, Stephen Walcott, Senior Researcher at The Runnymede Trust, and Liz Hampson, Life Sciences and Health Innovation Partner, Deloitte Consulting, London and Leader of Deloitte's Health Equity Institute, Europe. This will be followed by a rich panel discussion on what this all means for us as communicators today and beyond.

The London conference theme is ‘Determinants of Health and Considerations for Communications’ and will focus on the social determinants and health inequalities. We will be exploring some of the determinants of health in more detail and the impact they have on different groups as well as looking at how industry is helping to advance health equity.

Speaker Biographies:

Dr Tammy Boyce

Tammy Boyce is Senior Consultant at the Institute of Health Equity, Professor Michael Marmot's team at University College London.

She leads on the Marmot Places work at IHE. She is co-author of the IHE's 2010 Fair Society: Healthy Lives and 2020 The Marmot Review 10 Years On reports. Previously she worked with the WHO European Office, the health policy think-tank The King's Fund and Cardiff University’s School of Journalism.

Stephen Walcott

Stephen Walcott is a Senior Researcher at the Runnymede Trust, the UK's leading race equality think tank.

He is currently leading on Runnymede’s health work, looking specifically at how structural racism is a determinant of health. He is also working in collaboration with the New Economics Foundation looking at the root causes of inequality, poverty and problem debt.

Prior to this, Stephen was a Researcher at Demos and at the Police Foundation.

Elizabeth Hampson

Liz Hampson, Life Sciences and Health Innovation Partner in Deloitte Consulting, London and Leader of Deloitte Health Equity Institute in Europe. Liz Hampson is a Life Sciences and Health Innovation Partner in Deloitte Consulting, London. She also leads Deloitte's Health Equity Institute in Europe. Her work accelerates access to innovation and improves health outcomes and she works with central government, industry and leading charities / NGOs. Her focus is to enhance health and promote wellbeing, ensuring better health outcomes for everyone.

Dr Michael Brady

Michael Brady, National Advisor for LGBT Health and Deputy Director, Patient Equalities NHS England; Consultant in Sexual Health and HIV, Kings College Hospital. Michael was appointed as the first National Advisor for LGBT+ Health at NHS England in 2019, with the remit of reducing LGBT+ health inequalities, improving healthcare experience, access and outcomes for LGBT+ individuals and ensuring the NHS is an inclusive place to work for its LGBT+ staff. Michael is also an HIV and Sexual Health consultant at Kings College Hospital in south London and, until September 2022, was the Medical Director at the Terrence Higgins Trust, the largest HIV and Sexual Health charity in the UK.
